“Expedite the process by taking our Online handgun license class.”
The benefits of having a Texas License to Carry (LTC), (formerly known as the Concealed handgun license, CHL) include the ability to engage in concealed carry or openly in a holster. This can provide a sense of personal protection and security for the individual. It can also be beneficial for those who work in certain professions, such as security, as it may be a requirement for their job. Finally, for applicants to obtain an LTC, completion of a Texas DPS training course, including proficiency demonstration, is required. Completing the requirements of this carry permit can provide valuable education and training on firearm safety and responsible gun ownership.
How long does a Texas LTC class take?
The length of a Texas LTC (License to Carry) class can vary depending on the LTC instructor. However, the Texas Department of Public Safety requires that the class be at least 4-6 hours long, not including range instruction and shooting qualification. The course covers topics such as firearm safety, non-violent dispute resolution, use of force laws (gun laws), and proper storage of firearms (storage practices). In addition to the classroom portion, there is also a shooting proficiency test that must be completed on a range. Overall, you can expect the entire LTC course to take around 6-8 hours to complete.
How much does it cost to get LTC in Texas?
The standard fee for a Texas License to Carry (LTC) is $40. There are discounts available for certain special conditions, such as being active-duty military, a veteran, or a Texas peace officer. A complete list of fees and special conditions can be found on the fee table.
